Lorraine Hansberry

Lorraine Hansberry was a playwright and activist best known for A Raisin in the Sun, the first play by a Black woman produced on Broadway.

Kevin Garnett
Born May 19, 1976

Kevin Garnett is a Basketball Hall of Fame power forward known for intensity, versatility, defense, leadership, and a 21-season NBA career. He was an NBA MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, NBA champion, and one of the defining frontcourt players of his generation.
Why it matters: Garnett gives May 19 a modern Black sports excellence entry. His career helped redefine the power forward position and showed how emotional intensity, defensive intelligence, and all-around skill could shape a franchise and an era.
