Frank Wills
Born February 4, 1948 — died September 27, 2000
The security guard who caught Watergate.
On a June night in 1972, Wills noticed tape over a door latch at the Watergate complex, found it replaced after removing it, and called the police — the phone call that unraveled a presidency. History repaid him with hardship, but the record stands: American accountability began with a young Black man doing his job with integrity.
Wilton Felder
Born August 31, 1940 — died September 27, 2015
Saxophonist, bassist, and founding Crusader.
Felder’s Houston-bred blend of jazz, soul, and funk powered the Crusaders’ classics including "Street Life" — and as a session bassist, that’s him on the Jackson 5’s "I Want You Back," one man’s fingerprints on jazz history and the biggest pop record of its day.
