David Walker

Title: Abolitionist, writer, activist, and author of Appeal to the Colored Citizens of the World
David Walker was one of the most forceful Black abolitionist voices of the early 19th century. His Appeal called out slavery, racism, hypocrisy, and the moral violence of America with a directness that terrified enslavers and inspired later freedom struggles.
Fredi Washington
Born December 23, 1903 — Died June 28, 1994
Title: Actress, writer, civil rights advocate, and entertainment trailblazer
Fredi Washington was an actress best known for her role in Imitation of Life, but her legacy reaches beyond one film. She refused to deny her Black identity, worked as a journalist, and helped organize for better treatment and opportunity for Black performers in Hollywood.
