Tupac Shakur

Full name: Tupac Amaru Shakur

Born June 16, 1971 — died September 13, 1996

Rapper, poet, and actor.

The son of Black Panther Afeni Shakur gave hip-hop "Dear Mama," "Keep Ya Head Up," and "Changes" — Black pain, love, rage, and hope pressed onto record with unmatched rawness. He died six days after a Las Vegas drive-by shooting, at twenty-five, and remains the culture’s most quoted poet.

Moses Malone

Full name: Moses Eugene Malone

Born March 23, 1955 — died September 13, 2015

Three-time NBA Most Valuable Player.

The first modern player to jump straight from high school to the pros, Malone became the greatest offensive rebounder the game has seen and powered the 1983 76ers to the title he famously predicted: "Fo’, fo’, fo’."

Jesse Powell

Born September 12, 1971 — died September 13, 2022

R&B singer.

Powell’s four-octave voice made his 1998 ballad "You" a wedding standard and slow-jam classic. He passed one day after his fifty-first birthday.
